Where to run in Dublin

Phoenix Park

A circuit through the southeastern park, with long stretches beside open grassland. It stays well short of a lap of the whole park.

Start here

On the park path north of the Wellington Monument.

Follow the paths northwest, loop back through the southern grassland and return to the start.

Getting there

Walk in from the Parkgate Street side and head towards the Wellington Monument.

Before you go

Give deer plenty of space. Use pedestrian paths and pause where the route crosses park roads.

A short canal-side run under mature trees, near the stretch associated with Patrick Kavanagh.

On the canal path near Baggot Street Bridge.

Follow the canal west towards the Portobello side and return along the same route.

Walk south from the Merrion Square area towards Baggot Street Bridge.

Bike lanes and roads cross the route at bridges. Slow down and check traffic before each crossing.

A straightforward run along the bay, with the Poolbeg chimneys across the water. The mapped route stays on the promenade.

At the northern promenade approach from Strand Road.

Follow the promenade south towards Merrion Gates and turn back at the mapped endpoint.

Getting there

Walk from the Sandymount neighbourhood or its DART station towards the coast.

Stay off the tidal flats: the incoming tide can be strong. Wind and spray may affect the promenade.
