Budapest

Margaret Island is the natural starting point for a Budapest run: water on both sides and an established running circuit. City Park is convenient from the Andrássy Avenue side of town. The Buda bank offers a longer river run with Pest across the water.

Margaret Island

A circuit around the island’s riverside paths, returning to the southern end. Much of the appeal is simply having the Danube beside you.

Start here

On the southern island running path just beyond Margaret Bridge.

Follow the island north along one side and return along the other, staying off the road bridges.

Getting there

Walk onto the island from the middle of Margaret Bridge.

Before you go

Use the running track where signed and leave space for overtaking. Follow notices if a section is closed.

Garden paths and open spaces around the park’s cultural buildings. This is a broader park circuit, separate from the marked running track.

Inside the western park edge beyond Heroes’ Square.

Loop north and east through the park paths, then return around the southern gardens.

Walk from Hősök tere metro station into the park.

Pest’s riverfront lies across the water as you run south along the Buda side. The route includes urban crossings and short diversions.

At the riverfront near Batthyány tér.

Follow the Buda bank south past the central bridges towards Gellért Hill, then return.

Walk from Batthyány tér station towards the Danube.

Give way at road crossings and bridge approaches. This is an urban waterfront, not a continuous traffic-free track.
